Elnatan Mulugeta

I'm an Ethiopian American filmmaker based in Washington, D.C. As the director and founder of memento, I collaborate with organizations and artists to create films that inspire and awaken our interconnectedness. I'm deeply passionate about partnering with organizations to further their particular social cause or advocate for a shared point of view. My love for visual storytelling goes hand-in-hand with my passion for making our planet a more habitable home. Growing up amidst the rich history and natural beauty of Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, I found solace and connection in the outdoors, nurturing a deep reverence for the Earth as my true home. For me, storytelling is not merely a profession but a calling—an avenue through which I can bridge the gap between the human experience and our innate connection to the natural world. With every project, I strive to infuse mindfulness and intentionality, crafting narratives that provoke thought, stir emotion, and inspire positive action.

I also have a strong background in business, with a B.S. in Information Systems from the University of Maryland - Robert H. Smith School of Business. Prior to launching memento, I worked as a videographer and editor at UnidosUS, the largest Latino civil rights and advocacy organization in the US, where I produced impactful branded videos highlighting the issues and opportunities within the Latino community.
